Prevent decay and protect your teeth with dental sealants.
Dental sealants have been used for over two decades to add an extra layer of protection to teeth. A dental sealant is a plastic material that is applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth as a barrier to acid and plaque.
Regular brushing and flossing can prevent most tooth decay, but the uneven chewing surfaces and fissures in your back teeth make them more difficult to clean. Every time you eat or drink, the bacteria in your mouth turns the sugars into acids that can eat away at the enamel on your teeth and cause cavities.
Our dentists can apply the sealant right here in our offices when you come in for a regular cleaning. After your teeth are cleaned and conditioned, the dentist will apply the sealant to the tooth’s surface where it will bond with the tooth enamel. A special light is sometimes used to cure the sealant which protects your teeth from decay as long as it is intact, usually for several years.
